You read that right. I did, in fact, just get my braces put on.... again. This is the second time I have had braces. (Embarassing, right?) I work at an orthodontist office as a receptionist, and my boss thinks my teeth should be 100000000% perfect again. I only have to have them on for a total of three months to line my bite up. But I have a strange feeling that this will be the longest three months of my life.
Piece of advice: Wear your retainers as instructed. I learned that the hard way.
As many teenagers have braces, I figured I would share some tips to build your self confidence about them.
1. Own it. You have braces. Period. You cannot change that fact. But you can change your attitude toward it. If you walk around school, mouth shut, not wanting to show your teeth, it will bring attention to your mouth! If you act as if it does not bother you, it will not bother others either. Own that metal (;
2. Whiten, whiten, whiten! If people will be looking at your mouth, why not give them something else to look at?! White teeth! I use Crest 3D White Glamorous toothpaste and mouthwash! I know what you're thinking, if you use a whitening toothpaste with braces on, won't your teeth look weird when you finally get braces off? Nope! Your orthodontist is required to do a quick, three minute cleaning when your braces are removed to even out any miscoloring! So do not worry(:
3. Play up your eyes! I like to concentrate on my eye makeup and play it safe on my lips with a nude colored lip when I have braces. Have you been dying to venture out of your comfort zone with a winged-eyeliner? Now is the time!
